A stroke of genius
August 26th 2008
A study using animals by Ohio State University has found that having a massage after a tough workout can help speed up the body’s recovery.
Animals who had a 30-minute massage were found to have improved function, less swelling and fewer signs of inflammation in their muscles than animals who had no treatment.
Professor Thomas Best, who led the study, said: “We know sports people have massages all the time, but researchers have never before shown the mechanism of how massages improves recovery.”
