Conservatives – “We will work with the FIA”
August 28th 2008
Andrew Lansley, the Shadow Secretary of State for Health, has pledged that a Conservative Government will work with the Fitness Industry Association to deliver a healthier Britain.
Writing in the Guardian, Lansley said that the Conservative Party will provide “incentives and a local structure, through business organisations, for small and medium-sized companies to improve the health of their employees, working with business organisations, NHS Plus and the Fitness Industry Association.”
The article followed a controversial speech to the think tank Reform in which Lansley showed a greater willingness to work with the wishes of the food industry than is currently the case with the Labour Government.
Lansley talks of the desire of the Conservative Party to strike “Responsibility Deals” with industry. This focuses on creating the conditions in which individuals can make healthy choices of their own accord.
