Weekly jab offers hope for diabetes sufferers
September 8th 2008
A trial involving 259 Type 2 diabetes sufferers in Canada found that 75 percent of patients given a new once a week treatment over a 30-week period got their diabetes under control.
The results of the trial are published today in The Lancet. Apparently there were also fewer side effects with the new weekly treatment in comparison to the traditional daily injections.
Dr Iain Frame, the director of research at Diabetes UK,said: βIt is something that is very positive and encouraging, but it is a long way from happening. There needs to be a much larger study over a longer period of time to see the effects of injections once a week.β
