American sports scientists say a low-fat, high carbohydrate snack just 15 minutes before exercise is just as good as the traditional idea of eating 2 hours before exercise. They suggest ‘natural’ sport's snacks such as a granola bar and a banana because these offer a much greater variety of energy-boosting sugars than commercial energy snacks.
